I took some time off during the holidays.
In the past, when I said I was taking time off it meant I only worked a few hours a day.
This year I really did take 10 days off.
No checking email.
No daily emails.
No client calls.
No work at all.
The first few days were hard.
It was like trying to eat just one Lays potato chip (this is an ad campaign from the 60s so you may not get it).
The gist is that you can't eat just one potato chip.
If I tried to sneak a peek at my inbox, I knew I'd end up working an hour or two.
Now that we're well into January, I am still in "goof off" mode.
Maybe it's because we've been getting hammered with atmospheric rivers for weeks.
I haven't seen sunshine in weeks.
I'm out of rhythm.
When I'm in rhythm, I can write an email in 20 minutes or less.
The words would flow.
When I'm out of rhythm, the words are very elusive.
I could write about the AI craze like everyone else.
In fact, I could have let AI write my daily emails for me.
But I didn't.
Overnight, millions of AI experts appeared out of nowhere.
We're in phase II where the new "experts" are saying 99% of the newly minted experts don't know what they're talking about (because they're trying to sell you their AI tool.)
Who are we supposed to believe?
I'm testing a few AI tools but I'm not going to tell you I'm an expert.
I think AI is a great tool to get you started but for now, the content is bland and factual.
The content doesn't have your personality.
We all have thousands of competitors but in the end, people buy from us because of our personality.
I'm sure AI will learn our personality as the tools learn from the content we share.
Do you remember Suzanne Whang from HGTV?
She passed away in 2019.
If you watch House Hunters or House Hunters International, you still hear her voice in new episodes thanks to AI.
AI is here to stay so embrace it.
What AI tools are you testing?
Where do you see AI in five years?
