There are countless songs about Monday.
I Don't Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats comes to mind.
How about Monday, Monday by The Mamas and the Papas?
Monday Morning by Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorites.
In my corporate career, there were plenty of Mondays where I didn't want to get out of bed.
According to the British Heart Foundation, your chances of a heart attack are 13% higher due to the Blue Monday phenomenon.
For the past 20+ years, I've been a solopreneur, so Blue Monday hasn't been a factor.
When you work for yourself, you seem to work a little every day, so Monday isn't the beginning of your workweek.
Every day is a workday because even if you aren't physically working, you are thinking about your business.
Today, I'm having a Blue Monday.
A very Blue Monday.
I just spent three weeks in Europe on an amazing getaway with my wife Ellen and four other couples.
We returned last week and we're having a huge letdown.
Jetlagged, fatigued, emotionally spent from an amazing vacation and...
COVID followed us home.
Normally, I come back from vacation full of ideas for my business.
The more I relax, the more ideas pop into my head.
I come home with a notebook full of thoughts and ideas to grow my business.
Something interesting happened on this vacation.
I didn't think about my business at all.
Zip.
My notebook is empty.
Not one brilliant business idea came to me.
For the first time in 20+ years, I was able to completely relax for 21 days and not turn on my laptop.
Not once did I stress about my business.
Not once did I have the urge to read about business and marketing.
Today is my first Monday back in the office.
It's a Blue Monday for me.
Yes, I'm in a COVID-induced brain, fog but something shifted.
Not sure what it is but it feels very different.
Maybe there's more to life than teaching LinkedIn and marketing...
Stay tuned.
