It came to my attention recently that not everyone understands the potential LinkedIn brings to a business professional. I've been preaching to my clients for well over a year that LinkedIn is the most powerful tool to grow your business or to blow your sales quota out of the water every month. When you know how to use LinkedIn properly, closing more deals is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Still, there are naysayers out there that don't believe LinkedIn is anything but a site to find a new job. They are the people who haven't completed their profile, don't join groups, and they never post status updates.
There's another group of naysayers that do participate in groups and post status updates. The problem is they post self-promotions and spam groups with “hire me and I'll help you” messages.
LinkedIn works best when you give more than you receive. As Zig Ziglar says “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want”. Focus on helping others on LinkedIn and you will understand the power of LinkedIn.
To prove my point, I'm going to do a 30 day challenge in June. Here is my challenge to you and I would love to have you join me in this experiment. I'm calling it the 30/30 LinkedIn Challenge.
Every day in June I will spend at least 30 minutes every day on LinkedIn. The 30 minutes can be divided any way you want. You can do 30 continuous minutes or spread your minutes through the day.
My goal is to help as many people as possible in the 30 days. I'm not focusing on getting more clients. I just want to help as many people as possible and see what happens.
Every day I will:
- Post at least two status updates with useful information that will help my network
- Like, Share or Comment on at least two status updates posted by my network
- Ask or answer at least two group questions
- Give at least two endorsements
- Give at least two recommendations
- Add at least two people to my network
I feel like this is definitely manageable in 30 minutes a day if I schedule it on my calendar and stay focused. Weekends may be a bit challenging but I'll give it my best.
I would love to have you join me in this challenge. If you're interested, comment below and make your commitment.
