Why you need to be polite to ChatGPT, blog article written by Ted Prodromou

Be honest with me.

Do you ever say "Please" or "Thank you" to Alexa or Siri?

I do.

Does being polite to your smart devices or AI tools entice them to give you better results when you ask a question?

Maybe.

My friend Ed Dale has a theory about being polite to your favorite AI tools.

He thinks being polite gives you better results.

Ed helped me create my Social Selling Made Easy digital magazine and has been a friend and mentor for at least 20 years.

Back to Ed's theory...

When you say "Please" and "Thank you" ChatGPT will give you better results?

The proof is in the pudding.

When you compliment ChatGPT it will give you better results.

A recent report from Google DeepMind confirmed Ed's theory.

In one test they added this prompt:

Take a deep breath and work on the pattern step by step.

Adding that phrase achieved an accuracy score of 80.258.

When they didn't add that phrase, the accuracy score was 54.

Do you use ChatGPT to create headlines for your articles?

Try adding this to your prompt:

I want you to test this against your training data and what you know, and I want you to give me options and I want you to keep checking until you can't improve the headline anymore.

I could go deeper but Ed's research on Large Language Models will explain it far better than I could.

This will change the way you use AI.
