My peaceful morning routine was turned upside down.
I live in a small town, a lot like Mayberry.
Stolen bikes are the most common crime.
This morning I noticed a very bright light outside our house.
The bright light was high-beam headlights driving very slowly down our street.
All of a sudden, I see a guy in a grey hoodie peering into my car window.
As he was about to smash my window for a smash-and-grab or to steal my car, I yelled out the front door.
"GET AWAY FROM THERE. GET AWAY FROM THERE. GET AWAY FROM THERE."
Ellen thought I was having one of my recurring nightmares where I think evil people are chasing me.
The jerk looked up at me and then jumped into a white getaway car.
My trusty Nest cam caught some of the action, but we didn't get a clear look at his face or the license plate of the car.
I'll be honest.
This shook me up.
A lot.
We rarely lock our doors because there is no crime (we will lock our doors now.)
I never imagined I would need to call 911 and review video recordings with the police.
This is where I usually segue into a business or marketing story.
Today, I got nothing for you because I've never experienced anything like this.
My mind is still spinning.
All I can say is "Stay safe."
